Michael Banks was born in 1972 and as a child he loved to paint and draw and create from whatever materials he could find. Michael’s mother died in 1992. He was so devastated he quit
painting for five years.
When Michael went back to painting he continued to paint on board but with brighter colors.
The boards are treated with tar and he etches or almost gouges into the surface.
Michael continues to be a powerhouse of talent, gaining recognition quickly.
He has exhibited work in New York, Denver and Atlanta. In 2005 he had a one-man exhibition at the Hurn Museum of Contemporary Folk Art in Savannah, GA.
In 2006 his work was featured in Southern Living and Better Homes and Gardens. His work is collected by lovers of both self-taught and contemporary art.
